Barack Obama is meeting Hilary Clinton at her residence in Washington, DC. The Breaking News on all the networks announced at 9:00 pm, Thursday night, on June 5, 2008. Obama surrogates were giddy with pride that Senator Barack Obama, winner of the Democratic Primaries, has the class and confidence to reach out to the vanquished, Hillary Clinton. By 9:52, Fox News was reporting that the meeting was taking place at the DC home of California Senator, Dianne Fienstein, a prominent Clinton supporter. I wonder what happened to the class and confidence of the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee for president?
What could be the agenda of the meeting? It could be to simply to smoothen the ruffled feathers after a long hard-fought primaries. It could also be to unite the Democratic Party. Or, it could be to start the strategy to fight the general election, combining the two forces. It could also be to discuss the retirement of her campaign debt, estimated to be in the range of $31 million. what I am certain about is that they did not discuss the possibility of a joint ticket.
An Obama-Clinton joint-ticket is a bad idea to begin with. These two politicians represent not only two different generations, they represent two entirely different cultures. Hillary Rodham Clinton is a product of 1940s who grew up in 1960s. A generation that not only saw the humiliation of Vietnam-war but witnessed the struggles of the civil-rights movement. A movement for equal rights but not special rights. Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. on the other hand is a product of 1960′s who grew up in 1980′s, a much different environment with much different opportunities.
Jab We Met, translation When We Met, is a block-buster Bollywood film, released earlier this year.
