This was the year that housing prices in the United States of America touched the dizzy heights. Since then everything has been down the hill. When we look back, it seems so stupid to have succumbed to that unrealistic temptation. Some of us burnt our fingers so bad that we would never again contemplate going back to the bad old days of greed and leveraged life-styles. Obviously our politicians and the government have learnt nothing. They are quite happy to pump in trillions of borrowed dollars into a failed idea of consumption and home ownership. Economists from the left and the right agree on increasing an artificial liquidity into the markets and try and go back to the bad old days of 2005-06. Wall Street might concur but the Main Street is unhappy and is feeling quite helpless. Just THINK about this huge disconnect!
Once upon a time, not so log ago, there was a ‘Hollywood Cowboy’ who decided to ride a tiger and become the President of the United States. He was inaugurated on January 20, 1981 and his name was ‘Ronald Wilson Reagan’. What he failed to recognize was that the tiger was not a pet used in Hollywood movies but a real beast. Somewhere in the middle of his now acclaimed performance he realized that the tiger was not a fake one and that he could not get off the wild tiger. Reagan continued to ride the beast for the fear of being bitten on the ass if he tried to get down. His dumb predecessors continued to ride the wild tiger for the same reason. Finally after two moderates another ‘Cowboy From Texas’ decided to ride the beast but fell off the monster just before completing his act. The tiger chewed-up his ass and his legacy!
January 20, 2009, a black kid from Chicago was chosen to be the next rider. His name is Barack Hussein Obama. People asked him if he could really ride the dangerous tiger. Obamas smiled and said “yes we can!” People said, “So be it”. Shri Obama was installed on the tiger with a big smile on his face. The tiger is also smiling. Obama is smiling because he feels he can charm the tiger with his overwhelming personality. The tiger is smiling because he doesn’t mind a black-ass for a change. People are not amused any more. They know that the tiger needs to be taken care of, Obama or no Obama. Ultimately they have to pay the price. This ‘TIGER” is the credit that Americans have accumulated over the last three decades. They know that they can no longer pretend to be viable when they are not. Politicians don’t buy that!
